Residential Mental Health Treatment Programs in Massachusetts

Wild Acre Inns offers a full range of mental health services and programs for adults and older adolescents at five different locations throughout Greater Boston Massachusetts.  Care in our programs is delivered by a multidisciplinary team which may include psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, licensed mental health counselors, certified substance abuse counselors, psychopharmacologists, art and expressive therapists, vocational rehabilitation counselors and other professionals, depending upon the needs of clients.  Our mission is to equip individuals with the skills necessary for them to attain their highest level of functioning. We offer varying milieu opportunities depending on the type and severity of illness, prognosis, and length of stay.

"Our daughter has been in the Wild Acre Inns residential program for six months and this is the first time in years that she has gone that length of time without falling back into the depths of despair."

Residential Highly Structured Programs

Wild Acre Inns offers two highly-structured programs, the Babcock and Lexington Programs. These programs offer a Partial Hospitalization Program and/or a Intensive Outpatient Program tailored to the type of diagnosis and psychopharmacology.

In both programs, individuals participate in structured partial programs or vocational workshops. A multidisciplinary team participates in the care and treatment throughout the clients' stay. Frequent treatment reviews are held to assess each individual's progress, and to adjust the treatment plan and medication requirements as needed.

Residential Supportive Living Programs

The moderately-structured, supportive living programs, Belmont and Gateway Programs, are for clients capable of participating in activities outside of the home but who need the structure of medication monitoring and assistance with daily living skills. Clients generally attend the Babcock or Lexington day program, school or work during the day.

  •  The Belmont Residential Supportive Living Program is a moderately-structured residential program which provides a nurturing environment for clients. Belmont encourages clients to transition to more independent living, and provides opportunities for individual growth and development.
  • The Gateway Residential Supportive Living Program is designed for the more independently functioning individual who requires moderate supports. It provides supportive living in a residential setting that continues to promote independent development. The program is directed towards the individual in need of autonomy as well as sustained support.

Residential Independent Living Programs

The independent programs, Rindge, Gateway Annex and Dwight Street, are best suited to individuals who are highly functional and managing their illness with community support.

  • The Rindge Program Residential Independent Living Program is an independent living program offering individuals a warm supportive setting while they continue their psychological, vocational and social rehabilitation. The residence is situated in a prime location, a ten-minute walk to Harvard Square with access to shops, businesses and community resources.
  • The Gateway Annex Residential Independent Living Program is shared apartment living designed for the more independently functioning individual who requires minimal supports. The Gateway Annex is part of the Gateway Program, which consists of a community home and shared apartment living. It provides supportive living in a residential setting that continues to promote independent development. The program is directed towards the individual in need of autonomy as well as sustained support.
  • Dwight Street Residential Independent Living Program serves as an 8 bed residential setting for client with increased capacities for independent living. Clients meet with their coordinators monthly and attend a weekly house meeting facilitated by a clinician. Clients are involved in a minimum of 25 hours of outside activities which may include work, school, volunteer opportunities, therapy, therapeutic groups, religious services, or exercise.

Many individuals complete treatment in one of our Massachusetts residential treatment programs, then often choose one of our independent living programs.
